This Project was to design building development project admin dashboard. Significant problems were that multiple services without explanations, complex architecture, and overall design are old-fashioned. Through this project, the stakeholders wanted to organize the existing services by creating a new dashboard design.
Web based admin dashboard (Responsive)
In-House Full Time UX/UI Designer
I created a new design concept and built the design system library for other designers to use and collaborated closely with other designers, developers, and product manager.
• Presented new design to the team
• Created the end-to-end flows of demo site
• Produced all design from flows to final visual and interaction specs
• Design dashboard from scratch for quick implementation
This is the customer survey result after release. We surveyed customer satisfactions. This result tells me if the Terrakan is successful or not. It was not perfect result but it was a good start.
Terrakan already built the website and user dashboard for real estate services like land search, land evaluation, Terrakan report, etc. However, there was almost "0" traffic on the existing website and dashboard. This was a problem because the company does not understand why the existing users do not want to use their services anymore.
How might we understand the existing users' needs and pain points and make the existing dashboard more useful tool for the users.
A Kickoff Meeting
A stakeholder organized a kickoff meeting in the beginning. All the right departments were there for this project. Product managers explained the project, and we discussed and determined what problems were, why we need the features, how solved the issues, the details of where we need to focus on, long-term goals, potential user journeys and what journeys we should be prioritizing for the project.
Design Ideation and Sketching Ideas
Based on the research, discussions the goals, the entire team together to flesh out many different solutions to find the right one. I sketched out all the possible ideas for one flow. Then, we progressed into 10 min wireframes to select an idea and do different versions of the concept. From all the versions, pick the favorite one and sketch it out.
Problems
There were more than 400 tickets related to bugs/customers complaints of the website on the dashboard page. I researched all the existing content and reviewed feedbacks, and I found out the following major problems:
Hierarchical drill-down navigation: Too many levels in the drill down hierarchy,
complicated search, old fashioned, and complex UI and UX.
We shared some different basic look and feel design ideas with the team and got stakeholder feedbacks to determine design direction and put it into the final design mockup and prototypes.
Detailed Design
It made out of the conceptual stage.
1. Simplified menus
I reviewed the menu names and levels with product managers and removed or combined some menus to simplify.
2. Intuitive project process interface with two different type graphs
In this project, I realized the project process is the essential feature for real estate developing managers to manage their projects. I emphasized the process graphs on the top and simplified the complete percentage for each projects.
3. Refined dashboard sections
The existing dashboard looked very boring and complicated. I created the VPM dashboard with the features that users want to see - Project process graphs, Upcoming meetings, Activity, Calendar. It provided the better user experience.
4. Clean and straightforward charts and graphs
I produced various charts templates such as bar chart, line chart and number chart for customers.
5. For a short-term solution, postponed some functions from redesign process
The demo design required dramatical changes from engineers and designers. It would take more than a 1-year project, so I kept the existing layout but redesigned dashboard look and feel based on the new design concept. We decided add some functions after redesigning based on current dashboard design.
We launched this admin dashboard with MVP features first to satisfy the early customers to get feedback for future updates.
Our solution, Terrakan was not just a calculating tool to evaluate real estates' value. We wanted make our users' developing projects' success through better project managing tool and communication tool by our powerful insights data such as real developing projects analysis.
• Through this project, I got the latest dashboard design trend, and it made
the website clean and simple.
• Even a demo product, I need to share with not only PM but also engineers at
the early stage. Once the demo design approved by stakeholders, I realized
the demo didn’t consider system architecture. Some functions were
significant changes to engineers. It would impact on engineers entire
sprints. All the idea come from the product manager, and stakeholder
desired concept. By this mistake, I needed to redesign the dashboard to
implement faster.
• For the dashboard design, I need to use the real data. Real data can give me
all the possible cases. Otherwise, the production design may be broken by
unexpected user experience.
